Happy New Year…and welcome to my new blog!

Lisa NYE 2014My New Year’s Eve

I always think New Year’s Eve is a little bit of a sad time, especially when you don’t have someone to share it with.  But I’ve always found a way around feeling sad by planning time with friends or family – one year I spent it “with” the Jersey Shore folks (idiots) on MTV.  This year I felt very content planning nothing at all, in fact, I was feeling great about continuing my purging of old files and paperwork, a task I had begun after Christmas.

But, I believe in looking out for opportunities and switching gears if something else presents itself.  So when my best friend down the street invited me over for dinner I headed over there for an hour or so.  Upon returning home, my daughter had a full house of friends (many of my La Strada employees) getting ready to head out to the celebration on Pine Ave. in downtown Long Beach.  I love the energy of young people, and loved seeing how wonderful and enthusiastic they all were….and how beautiful they all looked!  But I stayed upstairs and out of their way :)

Kids on bus

Around 10 PM they headed off to 2nd St. to catch a free bus to the festivities.  They sent me this picture of themselves on the bus ——->

Meanwhile, via Facebook, I saw my friends Cookie and Greg were at 555 so I asked them how it was going and they invited me to come.  I decided to hop in a cab and head on over.  It was nice to share a glass of wine with them.

I decided to navigate the Pine Ave. scene rather than head home right away.  Near an alley I saw one girl holding her (sick) girlfriend up and I let her know I thought she was a good friend.

I headed over to Hamburger Mary’s where my friend Emilio was celebrating with friends.  I got there just as they were leaving, which was fine with me because I was ready to head home anyway.  We walked down to Ocean Blvd. to try and get a cab, and while waiting we took these fun pictures.

I had only been home 30 minutes when my daughter called and said a group of 8 of them were freezing and could I pick them up – of course!  I jumped in her little Scion and yes, we fit all 8 into the car and dropped everyone off where they needed to be.

And now, I’m cozy under my electric blanket….so I would say that 2014 is off to a very good start.  I’m going to approach all of 2014 like that – looking for new opportunities and celebrating interesting experiences.  Love to all.
